If you've got Foxconn fever, remember Pennsylvania's hangover

Does anyone in the Wisconsin State Capitol stirring up the Foxconn story know they came, they promised, they had Pennsylvania on a string, until
...the factory was never built. The jobs never came. “It just seemed to fade to black” after the announcement, recalled a local official. It was the start of a mystery, created by a chief executive known to promise projects all over the world that never quite pan out. Yet few people seem to notice. Foxconn and others continue to get credit for deals that never take place. In December, Pennsylvania’s economic development staff was still touting the $30 million factory that never was.

Hello James,

But in WI, Walker's WEDC will probably give them a half million dollars to tell their story, before they (Foxconn) do nothing further. That's the big difference of being "open for business," that makes WI such a stand-out, currently vying for last place in entrepreneurial start-ups nation-wide.

Thanks for your tenacity on covering this stuff.

Dangle, dangle, yank... and count the baksheesh.

Except usually it’s the government official demanding the baksheesh, and the private company paying it; here Foxconn has neatly managed to reverse the process by finding careless marks who have lots of other people’s money to spend.
